Damsels of DDO Episode 59, Sentinels of Stormreach – Zombie Pirates

The Damsels of DDO are three lady gamers who talk about things that are important to them in the world of Dungeons and Dragons Online. Sahba and Mythery took pity on Lessah this week and tried to get her the seal and shard she needed to upgrade some gear from the Carnival quest chain in House Phiarlan. I’d say the results were mixed. Thanks for the effort anyway! Thanks so much for listening!

House D Sentinels of Stormreach – Pirates? Zombies? Zombie Pirates!

Bargain of Blood – It all starts in the searing heights where the Blood Tide have set up the Bargain Bazaar to sell their booty. This of course ticks off the merchants of Stormreach and therefore must be shut down once and for all! Ultimately the general manager must die and that’s awesome because he is a kobold riding a minotaur. Yes, that’s a thing. There are three optionals and bunches of traps.

No named loot.

The Black Loch – Slay your way through the loch while collecting keys along the way to make progress. Kill the necromancer on the big ship in the middle and get the key that unlocks the door to the treasure room!

No named loot.

Storm the Beaches – The Blood Tide pirates have occupied Mistral Island in the Straits of Shargon and are fortifying their base there. You need  to lead the island strike force.

There are three ways to get there but we always take the boat that puts you out away from the main part of the action. You need to destroy all their balista and make your way to the innermost part of their base and destroy a dimension anchor there.

No named loot.

The Tide Turns – This is my favorite one but you have to do the first three in order to get this one. Go to the Sentinels Tower and fight your way to the top. There are lots of traps and some choices to make but once you get to the top to fight Captain Tew, he’s a rat!! There are also some water eles and a genie and if you’ve done elite, three end chests. (actually there can be a total of eight chests in the whole quest)

Loot – All bta, ml 5, and have unraveling enchantments. Upgrade with sigils goat, lion, and dragon.

    • Therapy

There is around 26mg of caffeine in each 8oz glass of tea. The effects can last up to six hours. You need to stop drinking tea six hours before you want to sleep.

        • Caffeine works by changing the chemistry of the brain. It blocks the action of a natural brain chemical that is associated with sleep. Here is how it works.
        • If you read the HowStuffWorks article How Sleep Works, you learned that the chemical adenosine binds to adenosine receptors in the brain. The binding of adenosine causes drowsiness by slowing down nerve cell activity. In the brain, adenosine binding also causes blood vessels to dilate (presumably to let more oxygen in during sleep).
        • Adenosine is produced by your daily activity. For example, the article How Exercise Works discusses how muscles produce adenosine as one of the byproducts of exercise.
        • To a nerve cell, caffeine looks like adenosine. Caffeine, therefore, binds to the adenosine receptors. However, it doesn’t slow down the cell’s activity as adenosine would. The cells cannot sense adenosine anymore because caffeine is taking up all the receptors adenosine binds to. So instead of slowing down because of the adenosine level, the cells speed up.

Genesis Point

Last time, while we were roaming around in the battlefield we noticed a few buildings that we didn’t have time to investigate, so we decided to go back. On the way to Amrath we saw a couple of wolves playing ball. At least we thought they were playing ball but as we got closer we realized one was throwing red fireballs and the other seemed to be chasing them. It turned out to be Draculetta and Rent and they said they were practicing. Drac was practicing his aim and Rent was practicing his dodging ability. From the look of Rent’s scorched fur it seemed that Drac’s aim was pretty good but the fact that Rent was alive to talk about it proved that Rent did a darn good job dodging. We grabbed them both and took them into the battlefield with us. The first place we went was a called Genesis Point. When we got in there we ran into a guy who, I’m pretty sure though we were some other group because he quickly ran through a host of instructions and tasks we were to accomplish, we just went with it. What the heck, how bad could it be? It turns out that the place is an army base for the Devils. So, we released some prisoners, took out a few waves of soldiers consisting of devils, orthons, tieflings, trolls, and troglodytes. We roamed around in a maze which teleported us to another fight. Luckily we were able to open a portal and teleport ourselves back and finally we found a room that contained a grey pit fiend demon which we managed to kill pretty fast but his minions came in and swarmed around us. Lessah was barely able to get out of there with her life.

Bastion of Power

Next we went to a fortress that everyone calls the Iron Maw. Last week we talked to a guy who told us that the Iron Maw had never been conquered even though the battle has raged on for eons. He said that there is a way in that no one has used in so many years it’s been forgotten and that “someone” could go in through there and then open the gate to the Demon Horde outside. That way the demons and the devils could duke it out, basically eradicating each other and then that same “someone” could just mop up the stragglers. That way no one, especially the devils, would know how the fall of the Iron Maw happened. I guess our collective name is “someone” because into the hole we went! Everything went pretty smoothly, even though Rent and Lessah tried to get themselves skewered a couple of times, but it would have been nice to know there was a little pit fiend and a marilith waiting for us in there. Sheesh! Not that it really mattered, we had a great time taking them all down. The Iron Maw has fallen!! Woohoo!

The first thing we did was a quick little run through the happy birthday ddo challenge. I think we did it because Lessah wanted some broccoli but then she didn’t get any so I’m not really sure. Our run really was quick so we didn’t stop and smell any roses or talk to any party guests but if you do, you will find that the guests are full of jokes and quotes from players and devs from the days of yore. Why is it called yore? Anyway, we killed Steelstar and his little dog too, string table error. We killed Cordovan (which I kind of felt bad about since he’s a pretty nice guy), Severlin and his skellie minions, and Vargouille. Now their are a couple of interesting things about Vargouille. the first being, he lives in the bathroom. An odd choice but hey, I’m not going to judge. The second is that Vargouille is a vargouille, which seems to be a big head with wings and from what I understand is a new monster in the game. So weird but very very cool. The final boss is the Dark Overlord, which is who Jeets turns into, who by the way is in love with Malicia. Poor Morah. We got 5 party favors and I’m getting a couple of cookies. I love having confetti poofing out of my body! Now that’s a fashion statement!

The Riddle

So, what had happened was, Sahba fell into a hole and then Lessah went in to look for her and I followed Lessah cuz that’s what I do. Then once we all got in there Sahba said she thought she heard that some wizard called Barthand, one of the war wizards actually, had fallen into this hole and never came back out and the rumor was that if you could solve a riddle then you could find him and release him. But this was just a rumor and not a fact by any stretch of the imagination. Anyway, as we came around a bend we saw three maidens standing in a circle chanting something. As we got closer we heard something like … “One falls in and two others follow. How many will there be to escape this hollow?” It could have been something else but I’m pretty sure that was it. Then all of a sudden they all turned into crones and we killed them right away. So really, does it matter what they were saying? We continue to run around killing everything we see and going into every cubby (and there are a lot of dead end cubbies in here) when we run into a door. Now, Sahba start talking to this door, which I thought was a little odd until I found out that it wanted a password, then it made complete sense but we didn’t know the password. So Sahba says that maybe that wizard back by the fire where we killed the crones knows it. So we went back to ask him. Low and behold it was Barthand standing there the whole time. I think he must have had a spell on him cuz once we talked to him and he told us the password he took off out of that place like the Flash was chasing him. There were more crones to kill and a bunch of vine horrors but basically that was it.

Loot

Nothing, nada, zero, zilch, the big goose egg, glass alllllll the way empty, nuttin honey, linty pockets,

Impossible Demands

This was just to top off Lessah’s Purple Dragon Knight favor (and she’s still 2 short….2!). We just went in, killed her and left. If you really want to hear us talk about this quest and loot listen to episode 18.

  • The Damsels of DDO Recorded Live on Wednesday January 6th, 2015 at 11:00 PST. This is our 32nd show.
    • What do you do when you realize not everyone in your party can run Epic Challenges?
      • Have to be careful, even in Epic Challenges, you will get dinged for XP unless you are at level or above.
    • I did not do any Party Crashers this week…
    • Myth is a liar!  Last show she promised to level.

  • Before we start!
    • Doctor Who
      • Thanks Cordovan for sending us the Dr. Who song/ video!
      • The Wedding of River Song
        • No spoilers for this one, but the Doctor is damn clever, finding loopholes in any situation.
      • The Widow and the Wardrobe
        • Another brilliant Christmas episode.  The widow picks the lock on the police call box and makes it look easy!  lols.  “Suddenly the last 900 years of time travel don’t seem so secure.”
        • Also, I felt like if we could see the Doctor as a kid, his room would have been decorated the way he did it for these kids.  Very cool!
      • A Town Called Mercy
        • Firstly, the Doctor looks amazing in a Stetson.  It pissed me off that episode where River shot his hat off his head.  I just never said that.
        • Second.  The old west/ 19th century Southern accents were GREAT. Those are hard to nail, even for people from the south, and I was really impressed.
        • Now we talk gun safety.  “Everyone who isn’t an American, drop your weapon..” because Amy was pointing and shooting everywhere on accident.  Seriously though, you can’t leave your finger on the trigger while you’re talking.  And never point a gun at anyone unless you intend to shoot them.  That’s just rude!
          • One last thing on that, about 25 people a year are injured due to “celebratory gunfire”.  Don’t do that.  That’s why fireworks were invented.
    • Anime – Free! Iwatobi Swim club has a dub on Crunchy Roll and it made me very happy to relive season one in English.
      • On a related note, my son is making me a graphic of the characters from this anime using M&M’s characters.

Amrath

Here’s the thing, I guess I kinda sorta remember something about leveling up to 21. But the thing about it is that I didn’t remember about it until someone said something about how I can’t get into the epic challenges if I’m only 20. So… we went to Amrath.

Weapons Shipment

OK! There is something very important to remember about this place, the place to which weapons are shipped. There is a girl in here and this girl is sort of erratic. I mean, she says she is there to pick up some weapons and she needs some help but then she runs really fast ahead and after that she sort of saunters down the hallway. And you better pay attention to her because if she gets herself killed you are going to get yourself booted out of that place. And there is no arguing the point either. Boom, out you go! I know this for a fact because that is what happened to us. It all happened very fast, so fast in fact that had I not just spent the last 5 minutes talking about it we could probably have not even mentioned it and no one would have noticed. So that happened. We killed waves and waves of mean guys, bad guys, and monsters. Out of three chests we got zero named loot. Just sayin.

Loot

Sins of Attrition

Sahba was hanging in Amrath long before Lessah and I got out there because Lessah and I were trying to figure out which thing we were going to make each other twist in our epic destiny twisty thing. While Sahba was there we talked to a guy named Wakhakwi and he told her some convoluted story about about a citadel where some of the devil army Brigadiers had made their home. He also said this is the place where they bring troops they have found to be disloyal to punish them. He said he wanted us to kill one of the Brigadiers and he didn’t even care which one. It all sounded pretty strange to me. I mean, why just one and why doesn’t it matter which one? I still don’t get it but this place was near the place where the weapons came in so we went over there and killed one guy. Well, I say guy but it was really an Orthon and I say we but it is more like the royal form of we since I didn’t really kill much of anything in either of these places. I did give everything I could a great big hug and tossed some boulders at them. Sorcbarian for the win! OK, for the fun!

Loot

Wrath of the Flame

Another thing Sahba heard about while she was waiting for us to show up was that there was an adventurer’s camp over near the hall of the Third Legion where the adventurer’s were getting attacked by the Silver Flame. Lessah said she didn’t believe it and Sahba said “Let’s go over there and find out!” so off we went.  I have to say it certainly looked like that’s what was going on. They had people (and other things) imprisoned under force fields and a lot of fighting was going on. Inquisitor Lightbringer was giving a rather disturbing speech when we arrived which caused us to get into a fight immediately. It was obvious that Lessah was very disturbed about what was going on and her conscious was giving her a tough time as she fought her Silver Flame buddies (who knew? heh heh). It wasn’t long before we realized that this wasn’t the Silver Flame at all but a clever disguise perpetrated by the succubus, Malicia, and her group of spies. After we had plowed our way through the spies we came to a room with several Inquisitor Lightbringers held under force fields. I thought we were going to have a tough time finding the real one but Lessah managed to pick her out right away! We made short work of Malicia and the last of her spies. Oh, and I actually killed some things in here. Hey, a Sorcbarian can only give so many big hugs, then you gotta kill stuff.

The Damsels of DDO are a group of girl gamers who talk about things that are important to them in the world of Dungeons and Dragons Online.  The wolf druid pack is back at it and we talk all things animal behavior and fail miserably at Missing.  That’s what we get for working with the Stormreach Chronicle!  Thanks so much for listening!
