Damsels of DDO Episode 78, Night Revels II

Night Revels

The Damsels are three lady gamers who talk about things that are important to them in the world of Dungeons and Dragons Online. This week, Lessah decided she needed a new mask from the Night Revels event and Sahba decided it was time to teach her party a lesson about patience and tactics. The results were surprisingly good. Remember, it’s all fun and games until you hit someone in the head with a pumpkin! Thanks so much for listening!

Night Revels

This is in Delera’s Graveyard, in House Jorasco. Characters can enter one of several instances of Delera’s Graveyard, each with a different level range: Shared, Levels 1-5, Levels 4-9, Levels 8-13, Levels 12-17, Levels 16-20, Levels 20-25, and Levels 26-30!

When defeating monsters in the Graveyard, characters can receive Darkest Chocolate, which is used as a base ingredient for many recipes, or a Night Revels Key, which is used to enter one of the dungeons. You can also use a Draught of Midnight to get a chance to acquire Night Revels ingredients any time you defeat an undead creature, whether in the Graveyard or not. Additionally, Night-Black Coffee restores Hit Points and Spell Points while in a public area.

  • Haverdashed – Provides Black Apples
  • The Kobold’s Newest Ringleader – Provides Shadowy Caramel
  • The Snitch and the Lich – Provides Pinches of Sinister Cinnamon
  • Under New Ravagement – Provides Spooky Almonds
  • Hayweird Foundry – Can provide any Night Revels crafting ingredient
  • Getting Ahead in Lordsmarch Plaza – Can provide any Night Revels crafting ingredients
  • Resurrection Chamber – Can provide Black Apples

The quests also provide Darkest Chocolate when completed.

  • The Night Revels Keys stack in your character inventory up to 10 per slot.
  • If you destroy too many undead too many levels below your own level, you will get a warning from the Greater Powers, Mabar’s Notice. If you persist, you’ll be punished for your actions with Mabar’s Interest, then with Mabar’s Anger, then with death.

  1. Being the first person to successfully attack a creature that then dies.
  2. Being on the creature’s hate list when that creature dies.

If you are the first person to attack a creature that dies, a random person in that person’s group has a chance to receive a key or chocolate.

If you kill a creature, and are not the first person to attack the creature, you are not considered for the random chance to drop keys or chocolate.

If you are on the creature’s hate list, but not the first person to attack the creature, a random person in that person’s group has a chance to receive a key or chocolate.

Challenge – (based on an existing quest;)
Under New Ravagement (Stand Your Ground)
The Snitch and the Lich (The Snitch)
The Kobolds’ Newest Ringleader (The Kobolds’ New Ringleader)
Haverdashed (Haverdasher)
Getting Ahead in Lordsmarch Palace (Eyes of Stone)
Hayweird Foundry (Haywire Foundry)
Resurrection Chamber (The Coalescence Chamber)
  • These “challenges” are actually played like quests and have no set time limit; you can zerg through and finish within minutes or can go AFK in the instance and complete hours later.
  • Named mob kills within the instance have a chance to drop Chocolate.
  • For Under New Ravagement, The Snitch and the Lich, The Kobold’s Newest Ringleader, and Haverdashed:
    • Killing the End Boss awards 8 Chocolates on any level.
    • Final ingredient payout:
      • At level, you get 3 ingredients per star, up to a total of 15 ingredients.
      • If you enter the challenge at a level greater than your character level, you get +10% more rewards per level, up to a maximum of +50% (total: 23) for running the challenge at character level + 5 (maximum ingredient payout: 23).
  • For Getting Ahead in Lordsmarch Palace and Hayweird Foundry:
    • Final ingredient payout:
      • (2017) You will gain score every time you gain a star. And you will get rewards equal to that score. At level, your base score (you can gain up till if you are inside whole time) is 6. Other level base score is +2=7, +4=8, +5~+8=9. So maximum reward payout is 9.
      • At level, you get one of each ingredient (including chocolate) per star, up to a total of 5
      • If you enter the challenge at a level greater than your character level, you get +10% more rewards per level, up to a maximum of +50% for running the challenge at character level + 5, rounded up (maximum ingredient payout: 8).
        • Rewards of up to 11 have been observed, though the mechanic (if any) for getting extra ingredients is currently unknown, and may be a bug that will be fixed.
  • For Resurrection Chamber:
    • Final ingredient payout:
      • At level, each objective grants you the following score (total 20):
        • Slay the undead in the temple: 2
        • Slay Zanaduul, the Night Hag: 6
        • All others: 4
      • If you enter the challenge at a level greater than your character level, you get +10% more rewards per level, up to a maximum of +50% (total: 30) for running the challenge at character level + 5.
  • A late-coming player who missed some objectives should not end the quest. The ingredient payout will be scaled by his rating. The experience for stars seems unaffected by this [Unverified].

All ingredients (Chocolate, Almond, Apple, Caramel and Cinnamon) and Night Revels Key state in their item description that they will expire and disappear near the end of the current year. So players cannot carry over these ingredients for this event next year and have to start over again. What actually happens is the name is changed; for instance, the keys now become rusty and can no longer be used.

Store-purchased Lasting Night Revels Keys (Bound to Account) won’t expire and carry over to next year.

Damsels of DDO Episode 35, Eveningstar Challenges

The Damsels of DDO are a group of girl gamers who talk about things that are important to them in the world of Dungeons and Dragons Online.  What could be better than three straight shows of challenges?  That’s right!  NOTHING!  The Damsels went to Eveningstar to round out their jaunt through the challenge gauntlet and much XP was had by all!  Thanks so much for listening!

Here is the questing goodness if any of you are interested in running the Eveningstar Challenges for yourself!

Intro:   Thank you once again to the AMAZING Bonnie Bew for making this tribute to our Assassin, Sahba Jade!

  • The Damsels of DDO Recorded Live on Wednesday February 17th, 2016 at 11:00 PST. This is our 35th show.  We have a great show today with some great announcements!

Lessah jibberjabbers about things and Sahba corrects and Myth sleeps:

    • I can literally give tours of Partycrashers now.  In fact I did!  Rent and Myth came with me and learned that you can get a ridiculous amount of loot from there!
    • Epic Completionist. I am 400k past level 23.  Both Mythery and Rent were trotting off to level and I was like, “let’s do this.” What am I waiting for?! Also, I keep falling down and can’t get back up.
      • Also I will Wow you with a freakish past life on the next go around.  (I’ll leave that as a surprise!)
      • How to get XP without really trying, by Mythery Inferno.
        • Run challenges with Lessah
        • Have XP pot running at all times
        • Sneak online with Rent.
    • I watched Shoemaker do DDO WIki talk after the fact, but he gives away things on his show, so I think it’s worth getting up for.  Tuesday mornings.  Also I don’t think Titan sleeps at all.  CM is still my go-to for Tuesday afternoon goodness.
    • Rumors about Sahba Jade!  She is going to be on DDO Players!

  • Rumors, News, and Lies
    • First up, a lie – sahbajade makes Lessah pug
      • Speaking of pugging, did Lessah pug?
        • Pugging therapy!  I pugged a raid!  I got so much XP I capped at 22, so I had to take 23 for the show.  I am thinking about pugging with a new character!
          • Update, I did this and I might have inadvertently made someone playing a female character uncomfortable.  I was playing a guy and not using mic, he was playing a girl not using mic.  Things got weird.
            • “I have to go and do some dishes before my wife gets home”  Which in all fairness could mean a married same sex couple but they def wanted me to know they were unavailable.
        • I’ve done this.  Started a new character and only pugged.  Some levels are easier than others.
    • News – We are going to have a special damsels’ night, with special guest Cordovan – Feb 26, special time probably around 7:30 or 8, depending on when Myth has finished feeding her hubs. No no no, seriously I have a photo session. I’ll be there when I’m done with it.
      • It’s 10th anniversary event day-long stream with Cordovan this day.
    • Rumors – Lessah wears combat boots

  • Before we start!
    • Doctor Who

Coming soon

    • Shadowhunters!!!!
      • Werewolves…
        • As a connoisseur of werewolves, I can say, I hate these guys.
      • How much do you love Magnus Bane?  I love him thiiiiiiiiissss much!

…apparently we just can’t get enough…

We are finished!! All the challenges all the time. First we fought a fancy drider. He thought he was the king of driders or something. I’m pretty sure this is Lessah’s fault because she was in there fawning all over him while he stood above us promising to kill us if his minions couldn’t accomplish the goal. Of course it didn’t go down like that and we had to kill him. I know this made Lessah die just a little inside. She was sad, mourned, and got over it so we could go on to kill a dragon. Easy come, easy go. Killing a dragon is ALWAYS fun!!! It was even fun for me and everything in there was either immune to fire or fire resistant. It was OK, we killed a dragon! All of this took place by entering a portal in the Eveningstar cavern, by the way.

Next we went over near the lady that does the epic training and found another couple of doorways that led to distant someplacings. The first door led us to a large field where there was what appeared to be the ruins of a small building and a couple of broken ballistas. The sun was just coming up and there were two purple dragon knights and a wizard hanging out. We ended up repairing the ballistas and guarding all three of those nerds. I think the wizard was doing some sort of ritual or something. It was easy enough and we just fought off a few wood wodes, bears, and wolves. The other door went to the same place from what I could tell, only the sun was setting and there was a different wizard there. This time we mostly fought wolves, some of which were of the ‘were’ variety. Still, a pretty simple task.

Finally, we bounced on over to the entrance to the King’s Forest where a couple of posts live that have windows that lead into a forest of their own. In these forests it is the trees that need protection, not the people. It’s fine, the Dryad’s are kind of annoying but I like the trees. We saved them from zombies, necromancers, and a few priestesses. A good time was had by all.

All of these challenges gave excellent XP and lots of ingredients! Now, what should we make? Items come in levels 16, 20, and 24. There are Cormyrian melee weapons, throwing weapons, crossbows, bows, robes, armors, shields, and a War Wizards staff. They come with randomly generated enchantments and there are “literally” a bizillion (because this is a real number) different combinations so I won’t be going into that. There are also some named things:

  • cloak of the bear – sheltering, protection, combat mastery, and incite
  • cloak of the wolf – exceptional seeker, dodge, attack bonus, and diversion
  • cloak of the dragon – spellcasting implement, potency, spell focus, and stealth strike
  • Everything is bound to character.

MISC

  • All Things Mythery:   (theme song by the amazing Bonniebew!)

    • Mythery Says:
      • Ahhhhhhhhh!
      • I’m already laying down on the couch
    • Mythery Thought: If Lessah destroys one more robe, she is going to get it!
  • Ask Mythery:
    • I saw you playing an Artificer in the Red Eye group.  How is that compared to the phenomenal cosmic power and itty bitty living space of a sorcerer?

Housekeeping!

  • Fanservice Experiment will continue this Sunday.  Last time we did some character specific stuff and it didn’t go so well.  I’m thinking we need to stick to things that are way under level!  Or at least realistically appropriate.  Shair has died like three times and Count was counting soul stones.
  • Mythery – I like the game.  The game is fun.  I will play the game.
  • When is Next time?  Special night, special time!
